The day after the pressure crack/ridge formed by the Island. The black spot in the middle ice-free.
The water under the ice is 'warm', so submerged ice melts quickly.
A wilderness retreat away from it all! We have no road access, which for 27 years allowed guests to really escape from the civilized world. Many have enjoyed warm and comfortable nights' sleep in private log cabins, and woke to the sound of loons calling each morning. After a most wonderful winter season in 2011, the lodge will move on to new owners. Alas, they are not going to operate the lodge. Folks looking for a northern Ontario winter adventure can look to lureofthenorth.com
